About The Third Place

In sociology, “the third place” refers to a place to spend time that is neither home nor work. The third place is one where you can
be a regular, catch up, create, and find space to be.

Hi, we are Alana, Sydney, and Jane and we hope to be on a first name basis with you very soon. As three sisters who lived away
from our hometown of Winnipeg for some time, we returned in search of community and a place where we could do the things
we loved together. And so “The Third Place” was born...in our minds. After dream-filled conversations and scouring of websites, it
was through happenstance that we found ourselves at 66 King Street. There were many nights spent vacuuming, painting, and
planning and we are happy to be sitting in what is now our most favourite place to be, our third place.

We hope “The Third Place” can be for you what it is for us.

Hope to see you soon!

Hi my name is Jane!

I have a deep appreciation for yoga and a love for sharing it with others. It all began in 2012 when my swim coach transformed our Thursday evening dry-land sessions into yoga practices, and Thursdays quickly became my favourite day of the week. Following this, yoga re-entered my life when I relocated from my hometown of Winnipeg to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As a student-athlete at Louisiana State University, I started to practice and volunteer at a nearby yoga studio to complement my training.

When my swimming career came to an end, my connection to yoga deepened. I found fulfillment in volunteering at the studio and assisting in teaching yoga to youth in the neighbourhood. In 2023, I made the decision to further my understanding of yoga by pursuing my Yoga Teacher Training.

My yoga philosophy revolves around harmony of breath and movement, fostering a connection to the present moment and promoting physical and mental wellness. I am passionate about delving into our perceptions, viewing the physical postures of yoga as a starting point for a journey of self-understanding and unity with the oneness of our world.

Meet Jane

Meet Alana

Hi my name is Alana!

I am a multi-disciplinary artist and educator. I find myself most often drawn to graphite drawing, ceramic sculpture, and various printmaking techniques. My work draws on the abstract qualities of medical imaging and the psychological impact of the familiar appearing unrecognizable. Layered drawings and sculpted forms with multiple associations explore the unnerving nature of the unknown and our instinct to find reflections in objects and images. Reflecting on the vulnerability and temporal nature of our bodies and consciousness, the work incorporates fragile material, finite movement, and forms with manifold meanings.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Fine Art from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. I have had the chance to exhibit my work throughout Canada, the United States, and abroad and have taught as a sessional instructor at the University of Manitoba since 2018. I also love to work with clay on the potter’s wheel and have had the pleasure to teach pottery classes in the community for many years.

I look forward to working together in the studio!

Meet Sydney

Hi, my name is Sydney!

If you’ve ever contacted the studio, it was likely me on the other end! I love
making our newsletters, manning our social media, and covering the admin
tasks that come with running the space.

You can usually find me at our workshops, yoga classes, and community art
nights. A teacher by trade, with a Master of Arts in Child Study and Education,
I really enjoy learning and sharing new skills, and am currently particularly
interested in ceramics and lino-cut prints.

I hope to see you soon!
